What kind of website do you want?  Static or Dynamic?  I chose Joomla - the open source content management system.

I started out in Microsoft Frontpage, then went on to Dreamweaver, then went onto content management systems. While working for a corporation – I was introduced to Interwoven, a powerful system but expensive and complicated. When I left that company, they still weren't using many of features of this system.

I started my own company in 2005 and was turned onto open source. Open source is free! But you must have the time, skill level, and energy to devote to learning the system and features.  I started out with PostNuke then moved onto Joomla.

Joomla!

I have not looked back since.  The Joomla open source community is amazing. Joomla is now my sole platform I chose to build in.  There are thousands of add-ons or extensions that can do various enhancements to your site. I like to use caution when selecting these. I have my favorites. With anything, if you build onto something, you have to remember the steps you took in case you have to take it apart. With Joomla and any third-party extensions, you have to stay current – up-to-date.  The more complicated you make it, the more you have to remember to update.
